Reserving Your Adventure

Securing your space on a High Mountain Expeditions adventure is easy. Simply call 1.(828) 202-7293 and speak to a member of our knowledgeable adventure consultant team, use our online information request form or simply complete your reservation online. If you are unsure which adventure best fits your needs let our team of adventure consultants guide you through the process, ensuring you find the perfect adventure that fits your needs and desires.

Advanced reservations are highly recommended. Because of the relative short nature of our operating season and number of available slots on our adventures, slots fill up quickly. However, High Mountain Expeditions will do everything possible to accommodate last-minute reservations.

A deposit of 50% is due at the time of your reservation and can be made by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or money order. Payment is due in full 30 days prior to the departure of your adventure. For your convenience, with your permission, High Mountain Expeditions can automatically process your credit card when the balance is due.

To reserve your High Mountain Expeditions adventure, go to the Adventures page, select your specific trip and book online there. Couldn’t be easier!

Cancellation Policy

If for some reason you need to cancel your adventure, please notify us as soon as possible. High Mountain Expeditions offers the most flexible cancelation policy in the industry. Reservations for adventures of less than 9 people can be canceled up to 48 hours before departure time for a full refund. Groups larger than 10 can cancel their reservation up to 7 days before their departure time for a full refund. Unfortunately, reservations made inside of the cancelation window will forfeit the full cost of their adventure. High Mountain Expeditions will not issue any refund for guests arriving late or leaving the adventure early.

Our cancelation policy applies to every adventure we offer and there will be no exceptions. We regret we cannot make exceptions for personal emergencies.

Check-In

Most adventures meet at High Mountain Expeditions’ Banner Elk, NC outpost. The meeting location and meet time for your adventure will be made when you place your reservation. High Mountain Expeditions does offer optional meeting places for your convenience. Please be prompt and dressed in the proper attire when arriving for your adventure. No refunds are issued for guests arriving late to their adventure. Please fill out the required liability waiver prior to your arrival.

Liability Waiver

All High Mountain Expeditions guest are required to sign a standard release of liability and acknowledgment before departing on any adventure, acknowledging the associated risks and apparent dangers associated with the adventure.

Guide Requests

High Mountain Expeditions is always delighted to bring guests together with their favorite guides from past adventures. Keep in mind all guide requests are not always possible and are not guaranteed due to an array of logistical reasons. However, High Mountain Expeditions will do everything we can to schedule you with the guide of your request.

Tipping

At High Mountain Expeditions our guides work very hard to satisfy the wants and needs of every guest. If you feel your guide has provided a very special trip for you, you can leave a gratuity for them. The amount is completely up to you, but typically ranges from a simple “Thank You” to 20% of the cost of the trip. What our guide appreciate most of all is your feedback, insuring that they did everything possible to assist you in having the “Time of Your LIFE”.

Permitting Agencies

In the United States of America the United States Forest Service, National Park Service and the State Park Service are charged with the duty of protecting and preserving our wilderness lands. High Mountain Expeditions is proud to hold permits with these agencies, allowing us to share these protected lands and rivers that might be otherwise unavailable to most members of the general public.

In North Carolina, High Mountain Expeditions is permitted by the U.S. Forest Service and issued special use permits to conduct whitewater rafting trips on the Nolichucky River through the Pisgah National Forest. We are permitted by the U.S. Forest Service and issued special use permits to conduct whitewater rafting trips on the Wilson Creek through the Pisgah National Forest. High Mountain Expeditions is federally permitted by the National Park Service and issued special use permits to conduct trips on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In Tennessee we are federally permitted by the U.S. Forest Service and issued special use permits to run whitewater rafting trips on the Nolichucky River through the Cherokee National Forest Service. We are permitted by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to conduct trips on the protected land of Roan Mountain State Park.
