Since 1986, High Mountain Expeditions has set the first-class standard for adventure travel vacations and our ongoing pursuit of excellence is based on providing superior service to our guests.

A leader in the outdoor travel industry, High Mountain Expeditions was founded in the spring of 1986 with the simple mission of providing the best outdoor adventures for our guests as possible. Now with over 35 years of experience in guiding adventurous travelers to some of the world’s most spectacular places, High Mountain Expeditions has crafted what we consider to be the best adventures in the world. We have become experts in Nolichucky River Rafting, Watauga River Rafting, Wilson Creek Rafting, New River Tubing, Hiking, and Caving. High Mountain Expeditions is still dedicated to creating the perfect North Carolina or Tennessee outdoor adventure. In 1986, High Mountain Expeditions began taking families and adventure seekers alike to some of the most spectacular places in the U.S. Our early efforts helped create a whitewater rafting industry that now shares the beautiful outdoors of the North Carolina Mountains and Tennessee Wilderness with thousands of guests every summer.

High Mountain Expedition’s claim to have the best guides in the industry is a claim that is not taken lightly. Our guides are reliable, knowledgeable, and committed to providing the safest and most enjoyable trip possible for our guests. Our guides experience nearly 150 hours of training before ever taking their first guests down the river. All are qualified in CPR, First Aid, Swift Water Rescue, food handling education, and Leave No Trace. Many have earned credentials as Emergency Medical Technicians and Wilderness First Responders. They are all exciting individuals who have a passion for sharing the outdoors.
